Sony Confirms PS VR2 Will Not Compatible With PSVR Games
Sony has confirmed that the upcoming PlayStation VR2 headset will not be compatible with PSVR first-generation’s games at all and pointed it as truly a next-generation headset with more advanced features.
Even Sony has already introduced its next-generation PlayStation VR2 headset with its first look, but now it has officially confirmed some details about its playable games, so let’s discuss them below.
In the latest episode of the Official PlayStation Podcast, at around the 29:10 mark, SVP of Platform Experience, Hideaki Nishino, confirms that the PSVR2 will not have backwards compatibility with original PSVR games.
“PSVR games are not compatible with PSVR2 because PSVR2’s designed to deliver a truly next-generation VR experience,” Nishino said before explaining some of the noteworthy features exclusive to PSVR2, such as the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers found on the Sense Controllers.
Hideaki clearly said, “the PS VR2 headset does not offer backward compatibility,” which confirms that the users of PlayStation VR2 can’t play the PlayStation VR’s original games on it.
The reason for that seems very clear because the PlayStation VR1 headset came six years ago, in 2016, and as of now, it is very old to this upcoming new hardware. Besides, it is also a disappointment.
Sony released a free adapter at the launch of the PS5 to allow PSVR headset wearers to use the device on their new machine, but the games were not upgraded in any way.
